67th Anniversary of f"Universal Declaration of Human Rights"

On Dec 10, 2015, "Chinese Alliance for Democracy", a U.S. based Chinese human rights organization, held a rally across from the Chinese Consulate General in New York City to remember the 67th anniversary of "Universal Declaration of Human Rights", calling on the Chinese government to release Liu Xiaobo, author of "Charter 08", a manifesto calling for rule of law, human rights, and freedom of speech in China.

Liu Xiaobo, a Christian, was sentenced to 11 years in prison on Christmas Day, Dec 25, 2009, on charges of subversion of state power for writing this article. The next year, in 2010, the Nobel Committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to Liu Xiaobo in recognition of his great contribution to China's peaceful transition to a democracy. However, Liu Xiaobo was not able to go to Norway to attend the award ceremony on Dec 10, 2010, the 62nd anniversary of "Universal Declaration of Human Rights", because he was then serving his prison terms in China.

"Chinese Alliance for Democracy" calls for the Chinese government to release Liu Xiaobo and all the other political prisoners in China, and return freedom of speech to all the Chinese citizens.

Members of "Chinese Alliance for Democracy" attending today's rally include: Li Ming, Lu Aihua, Geun chun Park, Cui Yingji, Piao Gengchang, Xuan Hua, Ma Meihong, Xuan Yingyu, Shen Xuehua, Piao Yingmei, Jin Hai, and Wei Jian.

  1. Hello,

I am a researcher and archivist for a documentary film called Ti-Anna, which is currently being produced and edited to be aired on the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) and at film festivals. The film is about jailed democracy activist Dr. Wang Bingzhang and his family's efforts to free him from confinement in a Chinese prison. In particular, the filmmakers are focusing on the efforts of his daughter Ti-Anna Wang. I am trying to locate footage and content (particularly in the public domain) and am hoping you may be able to recommend individuals, organizations or websites that may be able to assist me in doing so. Any help you can provide will be much appreciated. Warm regards, Pamela Grimaud (Montreal, QC)
